Title: Senior Project Engineer
Location: Hybrid, MN or KS
Duration: 6 Month Contract or Direct Hire
Job Description: 

Senior Project Engineer needed for a rapidly growing company. Please review the list of responsibilities and qualifications. While this is our ideal list, we will consider candidates that do not necessarily have all of the qualifications, but have sufficient experience and talent.

Responsibilities:

  • Design efficient IT systems to meet business and technology needs
  • Gather feedback from end users about system performance
  • Plan technical details and oversee projects (e.g. upgrades, hardware/software installations)
  • Monitor or track project milestones and deliverables
  • Manage project execution to ensure adherence to budget, schedule, and scope
  • Manage project scope and help facilitate scope changes
  • Provide complete and proper project documentation
  • Assist client end users in resolving issues related to the project
  • Provide a project implementation experience for client partners that is smooth, clearly communicated, on-time and on-budget
  • Drive the technical audit process for potential new partners
  • Evaluation, recommendation and implementation of current and emerging technologies, products and services
  • Configuring, implementing and troubleshooting multi-vendor network devices, servers, datacenters, virtual hosts, cabling systems, bridges, switches, routers, firewalls, intrusion detection, VPNs and other network related items
  • Provide support in the design, integration, deployment and troubleshooting of client technology projects
  • Client relationship development and management
  • Coaching and mentoring other engineers
  • Assists business development in developing quality technology systems offerings that meet or exceed client’s current and perceived future business needs
  • Possess in-depth knowledge of the key factors that differentiate the organization

Knowledge and Experience:

  • (Preferred) Undergraduate degree in IT, Information Systems, Network Administration, Computer Science or equivalent 
  • Systems integration skills including the high level understanding of how entire networks work, end-to-end
  • Extensive experience designing, estimating, and implementing IT projects
  • Skills creating end user and documentation for technicians to use and reference
  • Experience coaching and mentoring less experienced team members
  • Security first mindset and understanding of security related technologies, as well as their implementation
  • (Preferred) Prior experience in financial planning concepts and processes
  • Previous experience with business agreements, their terms and conditions
  • Measurable experience leveraging vendor relationships
  • Industry experience with an industry standard SDLC methodology
  • VoIP experience and general knowledge of VoIP and other phone/fax technologies including cloud-hosted VoIP.
  • Experience with virtualization technologies. VMware and Hyper-V preferred.
  • Cloud technology experience with Microsoft Azure, Office 365/Microsoft 365.
  • Networking experience working with VLAN’s, redundancy, and other network segmentation technologies.
  • Experience with network firewalls and next-gen UTM features like intrusion prevention, anti-virus, bandwidth management, application control, VPN technologies, etc.
  • Experience with basic programming skills, scripting, and automation of IT related tasks.
  • Experience with the following vendors hardware preferred
    • Fortinet, Ubiquiti, Sophos, Watchguard, Datto, Lenovo (Servers, Workstations, SAN’s, etc.), Sangoma/Digium, Axis IP Video Solutions, HP networking equipment, Cisco and Meraki networking equipment

  • Experience with the following software vendors preferred
    • Microsoft products – Windows OS, Windows Server OS, Azure services, Office 365/Microsoft 365, Office, licensing types and models, Remote Desktop Services/Virtual Desktop Infrastructure, Hyper-V
    • Trend Micro, Cisco Umbrella, Connectwise Automate, Connectwise Control, Connectwise Manage, VMware vSphere/ESXi

  • IT related certifications are a plus but are not required. CompTIA, Cisco, Microsoft, VMware, etc. are beneficial.
  • Skills to implement the solutions being designed. Experience working with large project deployments, communicating with clients and team members to get projects accomplished.
  • Experience working at a MSP (Managed Service Provider) preferred but not required.
