Title: Microfocus COBOL Analyst

Location: Remote or Hybrid

Duration: 6 -12 month contract, part time. 20-30 hours per week.

Job Description:

Freedom to make decisions relating to

• Design of solutions to specific end-user software requirements within the framework of a standard set of tools and best practices

• Scheduling of product releases

Decisions that must be referred to others would include:

• Adaptation of tools sets within the organization

• Implementation of new architectural frameworks or components

• General work assignments and travel plans

Minimum Qualifications

• 5 years of experience programming in languages such as COBOL, Uniface and SQL for relational databases

• Experience with design techniques and the use of architectural patterns sufficient to design and build robust, stable, secure enterprise applications

• Understanding of the nature and operation of the components of the architecture in which an application is built and deployed, including the server O/S and software environments, database and file systems, network structures, distributed application constructs, and security characteristics, sufficient to design, build, and maintain enterprise applications

• Understanding of the principles of application security and how to apply those principles to coding and testing practices sufficient to design and build secure enterprise applications

• Leadership and mentorship skills sufficient to lead a high technology project and to monitor and direct the work of other employees involved in development efforts

• Experience with software testing tools and techniques sufficient to establish robust testing strategies for enterprise applications

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in information systems or related field

• Experience with a variety of computing devices and web browsers and knowledge of their operating characteristics

• Knowledge of user experience and usability principles

• Knowledge of federal, state, agency, and industry accessibility standards and guidelines

• Interpersonal and communication skills sufficient to work successfully with a diverse audience (administrative, technical, and academic)

• Knowledge of operating systems such as Unix, Windows, Mac OS, VMS

• Ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative team environment

• Understanding of project management principles

• Understanding of statutes and policies regarding data privacy and practices

• Experience working in an Agile development environment
